Port Crane Man Accused of Holding Woman Hostage for Three Days

Jul 12, 2023

Authorities say a woman who had been held against her will in a town of Fenton home managed to escape after nearly three days to call for help.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent to Port Crane to investigate the woman's report that she had been assaulted and held hostage.

The woman called 911 around 6:15 p.m. Thursday from the Fastrac convenience store on Canal Street. She said Steven Fish had become violent and abusive at his residence on Ballyhack Road.

The woman told deputies Fish threatened her with a machete and would not allow her to leave the house.

Fish allegedly sexually and physically assaulted the woman several times over the next two days before she managed to flee and seek assistance. She was treated at a hospital.

Sheriff's detectives and deputies interviewed witnesses, collected evidence and executed a search warrant at the Ballyhack Road residence.

The 39-year-old Fish has been charged with first-degree rape and criminal sexual act by forcible compulsion. He also faces counts of unlawful imprisonment and menacing with a weapon.

Fish was arraigned and sent to Broome County Jail.
