Tower Cranes 1 & 2 Approved At Waldorf Construction Site

Aug 20, 2023

Two additional tower cranes have been approved for the Waldorf Astoria construction site, where a 100-story tower is being built.

Tower Crane #1 and Tower Crane #2 “would not constitute a substantial adverse effect on aeronauticaloperations or procedures” because they will be temporary, the FAA wrote in an August 1 letter to Moriarty Construction.

The approved heights are 955 feet above ground level, or 966 feet above mean sea level. The contractor had initially proposed heights of 1,255 feet above ground for both cranes.

The FAA has already approved a permanent tower height for the Waldorf Astoria of 1,038 feet above ground, or 1,049 feet above sea level.

Crane 3 was approved before 1 & 2 ? lol

Sp they can do 3…2…1…build!

😭

Crane 3 is for 365 ft, prob the FAA didn’t even have to get involved

Federal government logic. Why do you think the Amtrak platforms are too short?

Why are the heights less than the height of the actual tower, just one crane for top off?

The third crane’s approval is even lower than these two. Something is up with the height of the tower.

crane 3 is probably just pool deck parking structure related

“The approved heights are 955 feet above ground level, or 966 feet above mean sea level. The contractor had initially proposed heights of 1,255 feet above ground for both cranes.” So it’s not going to be a 1000 footer or anywhere really near that? The cranes have to be above the top of the tower with considerable clearance needed between the crane and tower so doing the same math as the original proposed height of 1,255 feet for the cranes, the tower will only be about 766 feet high. That wouldn’t even crack the top 3 in the city already.

There are other options to top off a building. If you look at 830 Brickell, their cranes were removed long ago and a new crane, using the building as it’s base, has been doing finishing work for months. Granted 830 Brickell was already at roof height when they switched crane modes, but seems likely they have a plan other than just chopping 300 ft off the height of the building.

Subterranean aquarium restaurant?

This would be a huge 3 or 400 ft height reduction.

The ONLY legit current supertower project.

I know, right?

True dat!

100%. Th rest, including OKAN, are vaporware.

DJ KHalid agrees with this.

Waldorf tower makin me cream

Makes absolutely no sense. The tower is taller than the cranes? Yeah, say goodbye to a super tall Waldorf.

Downtown and Overtown will be unrecognizable in the next 5-7 years when everything is filled in.

They’ll be recognizable, just have more buildings. Basically everything from Brickell to I-195 is going to fill in pretty dramatically IF everything proposed happens … most likely there will be some lulls in the action and numerous changes, but it does seem we are on our way to a pretty nice skyline.

Said everybody ten years ago and hundreds of boring box towers less.
